Exterminator Recap

Exterminator City yesterday was a lot of fun, I met a lot of nice and very creative people, and traded for some pretty cool zines. I will post some photos of the zines in days to come. I went home and collapsed and today I slept in, took a nap, and ... well, worked on more art. I started getting work ready to hang next weekend at Miro and worked on my painting for a group show next month at Push / Pull, the Venus Rising show. I am really looking forward to that show:

I also added the mini yetis and hedgehog plush to my Etsy Shop. I think they would be cute in Easter Baskets

Getting Ready for Miro!

I am getting ready for my show that will be at Miro next month!

The details:

Miro Tea House
www.mirotea.com
Mon-Sat 8am-10pm Sun 8am-8pm
5405 Ballard Ave N.W. Seattle, WA 98117

The opening will be during Ballard Art Walk, Saturday March 14th, from 6pm to 9pm
The work will go up on March 1st and come down on March 31st!

I plan on showing a lot of my new monster paintings. I need to finalize the list this weekend. What this means is that a bunch of work in my Etsy Shop will be going away and if it sells in the show it will not be coming back. So if there is something you have an eye on, you might want to act now! Also, I do take commissions.

Remember I will have a table with my work at Exterminator City in Seattle tomorrow!

Here is a detail of one of the paintings that will be at Miro. There will be lots of other new stuff I have not shared on-line. Have a great weekend, all!

Getting ready for Exterminator City the third.

It was so nice to have a long weekend. I wish that could happen about once a month. I had a lot to do, and it's the 1st weekend in a while when I had not been sick. I got some done. I finished 2 paintings and some designs for bookmarks, assembled 5 stuffed yeti, and I did the layout for issue 2 of Stories and Dreams Zine. I am taking it to the printer tomorrow and it will be available for sale for $5 in a few days. Well, technically it debuts this coming weekend at Exterminator City 3. But I will have it for preorder on etsy in the next day or two and will let you know! Anyone who orders it I will send it out over the weekend and throw in some extra goodies.

A few peeks from issue 2:

My friend Corianna loaned me a movie for valentine's day. Well, I loaned her Ella Enchanted and she loaned me Barefoot in the Park. I must say I prefer Jane when she is being charming and not trying to make me exercise. Most of my experience of her up until now had been on the later sort. I like how old movies are so much more like going to a play than our multimedia extravaganzas now. I enjoyed the movie, which I had not seen before. Also I would like to thank the person who got me a box of chocolates. Oh, that was me. I am so thoughtful. So anyway, that was my valentines, that and getting ready for Exterminator City and my show at Miro next month. I will have a few other new items at Exterminator city. I will show you more peeks later this week and everything will also be available online soon. I am also going to be in group shows in March and April. Once this stuff for the 1st three events are wrapped up, in about 2 weeks, I am going to be good and lazy for a while. I always say that but I really mean it now. Well, I often am lazy on weeknights - I believe the technical term is exhausted - but I usually am not on weekends even if I fully intend to be. So I did all the stuff I mentioned above this weekend and cleaned-the-house-sort-of.

Yeti Village

Recently I have been enjoying working on tall skinny paintings, and I will have some new ones in my show at Miro next month. I have not decided for sure if this one will be in the show. It's called Yeti Village. It's Daniel Smith Watercolor & Sharpie on Arches cold-press watercolor paper. I think I may have used a little Winsor and Newton gouache as well. I relied a lot on the beautiful reds, pinks, and oranges of the Daniel Smith Quinacridone set here. I generally sketch a light outline of the buildings and monsters in pencil, then do the watercolor, and add the ink last.

Yeti Village is available in my Etsy Shop.

Some Little Friends

I grew up on a farm so we always had animals around. Common pets like cats and dogs and more exotic animals like angora rabbits, llamas, sheep, and chickens. I live in a tiny studio condo now and I something think of getting a cat but right now I don't have any pets. I wish I lived on a farm again so I could have an excuse to have a herd of barn cats. Anyway, I do love animals, of all kinds, and these are a couple I have drawn in the last week:

Marmalade Cat, 5 x 5", watercolor on paper

My Puggy Valentine, 5 x 5", watercolor on paper

They are both available in my Etsy Shop.
