i have not felt like i had much to say lately - or if i have something to say i am not saying it. i should probably make some art about it. but i have been making art. and those are some of my best moments, getting lost and found inside of it. so these are some of the things i have been working on lately. i will try to let it say something for me...

Frida in the Forest
I have always been fascinated by Frida Kahlo. I think part of it is because she was a woman creating in a man's world, and because her work has such an intimate feeling that you feel as if you are having a conversation with her. And of course I admire her need to create art no matter what else was going on with her life. And as a way to deal with and transcend pain.
In fact my friend Janusz and I made a trip to San Francisco a few years ago for the express purpose of going to 2 museums shows - the Chihuly show at the De Young and Frida Kahlo show at SF MOMA. And it was worth the trip! I will never forget seeing so many of her works in person.
I have done several paintings of Frida and still do not feel like I have captured her but I think I am getting closer.

"I used to think I was the strangest person in the world but then I thought there are so many people in the world, there must be someone just like me who feels bizarre and flawed in the same ways I do. I would imagine her, and imagine that she must be out there thinking of me too. Well, I hope that if you are out there and read this and know that, yes, it’s true I’m here, and I’m just as strange as you.” ― Frida Kahlo, The Diary of Frida Kahlo: An Intimate Self-Portrait
